Welcome to the Lincoln Book Festival

The eighth annual Lincoln Book Festival is taking place between Tuesday 10 and Sunday 15 May 2011 and will feature an exciting and varied programme of events celebrating books and all that they inspire.

There is no doubt that the Lincoln Book Festival has become a must-attend event at venues throughout the historic City of Lincoln since its inception in 2004.

The festival has attracted local, national and international writers and artists who celebrate both historical and contemporary works of art spanning from Lincolnshire’s past with the Magna Carta and Tennyson, to new writing. This richness has ensured the public have access to a wide range of authors and experiences and helps them to engage with reading and writing in many non-traditional ways.

As you will see from the programme, festival-goers can look forward to hearing from Terry Waite CBE, The Rt Hon Norman Lord Lamont and Patrick the Lord Cormack, Val McDermid, Stephen Booth, Sophie Hannah, Dr Nick Barratt and performances from Ian McMillan and Tony Husband, Brian Patten and Paul Cookson. Local authors will be at the centre of the Festival once again with Sue Allan, Margaret Dickinson, Kate Walker and Stephen Wade making appearances.

On Saturday 14 May 2011, we have introduced a Children’s Fest Day at The Lawn to bring alive literacy to children. The day will include storytelling, workshops and activities for all age-groups. Authors such as Michael Cox, Jonathan Stroud, Cathy Watts, Lesley Berrington, Claire Kitson, Emily Roberts and also Helen McCormick and her Dramabugs will be taking part. And mums and dads have their own programme with Ivano de Serio, Mark Crick, Carlos Alba and Peter Baxter.

There are events for the whole family and all age groups. There will be the usual mix of themed days, workshops, theatre, poetry and performance.

Sir Andrew Motion (Poet Laureate 1999-2009) is the Patron of the Festival and will be performing at the Drill Hall on Thursday 12 May.
