Cathy Brett has been scribbling stuff for more than twenty years – as a fashion illustrator, as a jet-setting spotter of global trends and as a consultant to the behemoths of the British high street.... Read more

Alex Bell always wanted to be a writer but had several different back-up plans ranging from a dolphin trainer to animal shelter vet but then, at fifteen, she had an epiphany involving John and Robert Kennedy... Read more

Michael Cox:  Wild things to do with Woodlice

Can't tell a blackbird from a blackberry, a butterfly from a buttercup or a hedgehog from a hedgerow? Tired of crouching in a cubby hole crunching crisps and going square-eyed at the telly? In that case, you better join children’s author Michael Cox as he does ‘Wild Things With Woodlice’ and lots of other nutty nature activities like sticking his beak in some owl sick, making prints with Gill (his pet fish), turning completely 'invisible', going batty at the beach, feral in the forest and ga-ga in the garden. Bookworms: Bringing books to life with Dramabugs

ramabugs is a new, fun and dynamic drama company for 0 – 9 year olds, passionate about helping children find a voice through drama with lively energetic sessions.

Focused on building confidence

and self esteem, Dramabugs sessions help to teach children how to co-operate, share, interact and communicate with other children as well as empowering them to physically and emotionally express themselves through dramatic play, games, movement, role play, interactive storytelling and singing.

These interactive storytelling sessions are focused on bringing books to life and igniting a passion for reading from an early age. Stories are explored and experienced during the session as children are invited to really get involved whether it be by vocally or physically contributing.

Seaside Inspirations

Cathy Watts will be offering a running programme throughout the day of story-telling from her own books combined with different craft activities suitable for ages five to ten (and anyone else who likes the seaside!). Children can come and hear Cathy talking about how she writes her compelling tales of the sandies, those small characters who live underneath the beach huts and come out at night to put the promenades and the beaches to right. She will also be showing her collection of seaside items such as hag stones, mermaids’ purses and pieces of polished glass which have inspired her own stories and then making some of these items with interested

children. Certain to be a fun day for all involved, Cathy is delighted to be taking part for the first time in The Lincoln Book Festival 2011

Real Food For Real People

It is a cookery demo which is non pretentious and to which everybody can have a go at and enjoy.  Throughout the demonstrations Emily Roberts will be talking about her journey into the World of food and how reading cookery books at a young age enabled her to learn to cook.  Emily will also be talking about how her journey in filming for her cookery programmes demonstrated that there is a whole army of people who want to know how to cook but do not know where to start. Robert Paul Weston

"Critically-acclaimed, award-winning children's author, Robert Paul Weston, reads from and discusses his debut novel, Zorgamazoo. This book isn't a regular, everyday children's novel. It's composed entirely in rhyming anapestic tetrametre, making it one of the most ambitious—and enjoyable—verse-novels ever written! This presentation is aimed at six to twelve year-olds, but parents are encouraged to join in the fun." Read more about Robert Paul Weston

Jonathan Stroud

will be at the Festival during the afternoon to speak about his bestselling Bartimaeus trilogy plus his new graphic novel, The Amulet of Samarkand. Jonathan Stroud has been shortlisted for the 2010 Costa Children’s book Award for Bartimaeus:  The Ring of Solomon. Read more about Jonathan Stroud
